Background:
ABB is a leading power electronics and automation technology group that employs over 103 000 people in 100 countries. The ABB Drives business unit develops, manufactures and markets frequency converters.

Challenge:
ABB's challenge was to optimize inbound material flow in the Helsinki production facility. ABB has approximately 150 suppliers. For Kanban boxes, also the purchase order triggering process was to be speeded up.

Solution:
Vilant Systems developed an UHF RFID based inbound reception system that automates goods receiving. For Kanban suppliers also an RFID based reorder triggering system was developed.

Results:

• Significant improvement in material receiving efficiency
• Replenishment times for Kanban shorter
• Stock turnover faster
